Early Decision Success

“The Early Decision college application deadline was approaching fast, and I was somewhat behind on my applications. I had not made up my mind on where I wanted to go to school, and I was overwhelmed by the number of essays that I had to write. Thankfully, I met Justin. He was able to calm me down and discuss the best course of action for my applications. He was also very critical yet informative of the work that I produced. More than a counselor, Justin shared his stories and life experiences; these assisted me a lot in overcoming my personal obstacles, showing that he was not just a mentor but also a friend. Even though the college admissions process was very stressful, Justin helped me alleviate much of that burden by giving valuable advice and consistent feedback on my writing. He was very strict in helping me express the emotions that I wanted to convey in my essays, and I appreciate him greatly for it. When I found out that I had been accepted Early Decision to UVA, I was so happy in knowing that the work that I put in had paid off. This journey would have been much more challenging without Justin’s help.”

Prepped for Columbia University

“I’m a student from Russia; roughly 1.5 years ago I decided that I should continue my education in the United States and study at one of the American universities. My dream was to get into one of the Ivy League schools. Obviously, as a part of my application process, I had to take SAT General test. I’ve done some self preparation and scored 1450 - 700 for language and 750 for maths, and 5-2-6 for an essay on my first sitting. As it wasn’t quite enough for my target universities, I decided to find someone who would be able to help me improve my language score. That’s when I started working with Sonya. She thoroughly explained all the necessary concepts, showed me how to do tasks efficiently and where to pay extra attention. We also practiced a lot with essays, Sonia explained to me how to properly structure the piece and which points to stress on the most. Just after 3 months of preparation with Sonia, I was able to score 1590 on my second sitting and 6-6-6 for an essay. Recently I’ve been admitted to Columbia University class of 2023. I believe that Sonya’s expertise, commitment and personal approach played a crucial role in my preparation, allowing me to score very high on SAT and to eventually get accepted to my dream school, and I can recommend her to anyone who wants to improve their skills of reading and writing in English.”

Sustained Guidance and Success Through the Years

“With Justin’s help, college my college transfer application process has been easier. I have been working with Justin intermittently for four years (SAT, College rhetoric class advisement, common application essays, University of California application essays). Justin has helped me to express my thoughts and effectively put them into words. He is patient, ready to make himself available, and often flexible in in assisting students regardless of time differences. I am glad that, with his help, I have been accepted to UCSD as a transfer student. I am confident that Justin would serve anyone well as a college counselor. Besides, he is a fun and enjoyable guy to work with.”

Happy and Grateful Parents for Math Support

“Justin Grosslight has been an instructor and mentor for our daughter, a rising junior in high school. Justin helped our daughter in preparing for the Independent School Entrance Exam when she applied to boarding school. Our daughter saw a marked improvement in her test scores from her practice test to her final results on the Exam in large part due to Justin’s instruction and she was accepted to all of the schools that she applied to. She is now a student at Cranbrook and has spent the last year receiving tutoring from Justin during a gap year due to Covid-19. Justin has been an excellent tutor and has also mentored our daughter in thinking about her plans for college. As parents, we have greatly appreciated how Justin has kept us informed about our daughter’s progress. He has also taken considerable time to meet with us when we have requested and has provided plentiful insight into the college admissions process. Justin is deeply informed, responsible, and has been impactful in providing tutoring and mentorship to our daughter. We can highly recommend Justin as a tutor and/or mentor for any motivated student seeking to improve their proficiency in several subject matters and/or in preparing for taking standardized tests for and applying to Private Schools and/or Universities.”

Well Worth the Investment

"Sonya is a teacher with excellent language skills and educational background combined with a friendly attitude to her students. I find Sonya’s lessons to be diverse and dynamic. She chooses the topics for discussion based on the language level; however, she also takes into consideration her student’s interests. Thus, she organizes discussions, which are pleasant and intellectually stimulating, while at the same time fully developing language skills. Sonya also focuses on language specifics, such as correct pronunciation and intonation, which are crucial for reaching proficiency in a foreign language. In brief, Sonya is highly motivated as a teacher and my work with her has been highly beneficial."
